The Tropes:
Second-chance love · first love returns · forbidden by family · the one that got away · a ticking clock before the wedding
She spent years convincing herself she’d made the right choice. Then the phone rang.
Spain, the 1990s. Pia has always been the daughter who does the right thing. Her life is mapped out to the last detail, and she fully intends to follow it, until James, a free-spirited American, shows her how it feels to want something just for herself. Their romance is the kind that rearranges a person. It also threatens everything her family expects of her.
So Pia makes the hardest choice of her life. She breaks James’s heart, protects her family’s name, and tells herself the wanting will fade.
It doesn’t.
Now, one week before she marries the steady, suitable man everyone approves of, a phone call from James changes everything. Pia has days to decide whether she’ll honor the life she was supposed to want, or finally choose the love that never let her go.
The Book
Hi, I am Payton
I write love stories with real emotional weight, the kind that earn both the tears and the laughter. I started writing because it gave my creativity somewhere to go, along with the old hopes, the past hurts, and everything in between. Mostly, I write the books I wish already existed. Books where you fall hard, feel all of it, and close the last page a little different than when you opened it.
More than anything, I want you to feel seen while you read. I want the dark parts to feel worth it, because there’s always hope waiting on the other side. And if I’ve done my job right, you’ll finish that last chapter a little desperate to text someone about it.
When I’m not writing, I’m a wife and a mom to three (one girl, two boys), building this creative life in the middle of the beautiful chaos.
